The excitement and challenges in starting your own online business to live a life of freedom

roller coaster

As I opened my laptop this morning, I saw that I have received my very first comment on one of my blog posts! I probably read it three times as i smiled from ear to ear.

Yes, this is only a small victory and it’s only early days, but I do believe it is so important to celebrate your small victories when you’re starting your online business.

The Roller Coaster ride

The excitement and challenges in starting your own online business to live a life of freedom can become like a roller coaster ride. Everything starts off great, but then you eventually run into stumbling blocks. This is where you are presented with two choices: give up or try again.

In Robert Kiyosaki’s book, Rich Dad, Poor Dad, he explains that the difference between someone who will be successful and someone who will continue to live a mediocre life, is the way they treat failure. He says that the rich and successful use failure as a driving force of motivation in order to move forward, whilst the crowd get discouraged by failure.

Advice I applied to my life

The excitement and challenges in starting your own online business to live a life of freedom

One thing that I found helped me a lot during this roller coaster ride, was to think and act like a rich person. Very often I ended up wanting to give up because the excitement and challenges in starting your own online business to live a life of freedom can become overwhelming.

I decided to take Rich Dad’s advice and started asking myself: Is this what a rich and successful person would do? Would a rich and successful person vegetate in front of the TV because he’s tired? Or would a rich and successful person rather go to bed earlier and get up at 5am to work on his goals?

If you cultivate the habits of a rich and successful person, chances are good you will eventually become rich and successful.

My greatest asset in starting my online business

I found that it is so important to have a support system. Six Figure Mentors provided me with everything I needed in order to start my online business and they know all about the excitement and challenges in starting your own online business to live a life of freedom.

I am given the opportunity to talk to supportive people who have walked the path which I am currently on. I can learn through their trials and errors which saves me so much time in the long run.

I am also able to learn every skill I need in order to get to where I need to be. SFM has a great program that covers everything I need in order to be successful online. They provide me with knowledge from experts while also ensuring that I don’t get overwhelmed by information.

What happens when you stop meditating

Ever wondered what happens when you stop meditating? Here is what I found happened to me:

Sometimes life gets in the way of our spiritual practice. I have found myself hitting some stumbling blocks along the way of my career and decided to focus more on work. And by extension, stressing about work. Here’s what happens when you stop meditating.

Stress

Instead of spending that 30 minutes in the mornings on practicing mindfulness, I tried adding this additional 30 minutes to my work in order to get more done. I soon found that I started grabbing on to anxiety prone thoughts that does nothing more but bring me suffering.

Research shows that there is a clear difference in stress levels between people who meditate and people who don’t.

Less productive

Being less productive is also what happens when you stop meditating. I found that I became way less productive when I stopped meditating. I ended up worrying more and working less.

In Eckhart Tolle’s book – The Power of Now,he talks about how artists, scientists, etc. produce their best work in that moment of no thought, when they are completely present in the moment. It has been said that this happens because we tap into the unlimited wisdom of the universe, instead of trying to solve problems with our own limited mind.

Even though I’m not exactly present 100% of the time, all the time in days that I start with meditation, I do see a big change in my work ethic; I do things faster, I am more focused, and ideas just flow out of me.

What happens when you stopped meditating

It has only been one morning since I came back to meditating and I am already feeling such a big difference. I am feeling a sense of lightness and I am constantly reminded to not take life too seriously.

I am continuing on giving it my all when it comes to achieving my goals, but I am no longer standing in the way of my own success through negative thinking.

Fatigue

Fatigue is what happens when you stop meditating. I found that I got tired way easier than than I usually would have when I included meditation in my morning routine. I soon ended up getting out of bed just a little later and started resting just a little more.

I soon realized what a big difference those 30 minutes in the morning make to me. It is definitely worth investing this time into yourself.

If you’re new to meditation, I highly recommend that you give it a go and see if it makes a difference in your life. There are many guided meditations out there which you can find on You Tube if you feel you need some guidance.

I found that a great place to start is to just focus on your breathing.

We are destined for freedom

woman walking in rice field in bali
We are destined for freedom.

During the last couple of years, I have often felt like something is missing. I just couldn’t figure out what that was. I had everything; a beautiful apartment, a loving partner, a stable job and the cutest cat in the whole world (I’m going to stop myself right here before I end up making this entire post about her).

A couple of months ago I came to the realization that we are all made for so much more than this “standard” type of living which society set out for us. We are destined for freedom! I feel that it is so important to spend more time on things that move us, like traveling and going on adventures. And fully committing to our passions, like painting or writing or whatever that may be for you.

Shortly after realising this I found a way that will allow me to do all of this while living a life of abundance! Imagine being able to travel whenever you want, while earning as you go.

I have learnt that through becoming an affiliate marketer (which is way easier than it seems), I am able to quit my day job (all in good time, nothing happens over night) and have so much more freedom in the way I spend my days.

Manifest Abundance into your life

woman meditating in nature

Here are some tips on how to manifest abundance into your life

1. Practice gratitude

When we focus on what we have been blessed with, we raise our vibrational frequency, which in turn communicates to the universe that we are abundant and, therefore, attract more abundance. It is so important to spend a couple of minutes everyday practicing gratitude in order to manifest abundance into your life. When we are at a low point in our lives, it’s easy to believe that we have nothing to be grateful for, but if you look closely, you can find so many things that you overlook on a daily basis.

2. Visualization techniques

Visualization is a powerful tool when it comes to manifesting abundance into your life. When you are trying to manifest something in particular in your life, it is important to communicate to the universe exactly what it is that you want.

For example:

My desire is to live a laptop lifestyle and to be my own boss. This will allow me the freedom to travel whenever I would like, since I can work anywhere where I have my laptop and a Wifi connection.

I get up early every morning in order to manifest my desire. I start by sitting down to meditate. I focus on my breathing. Once I have diverted my attention away from all my mental noise, I start thinking in detail about what my life will be like when I live my laptop lifestyle. I imagine what my ideal day would be like.

First, I think about waking up in this beautiful bohemian style bed and breakfast in a forest. As I look out of the window, I see nature all around me. I make a cup of coffee and I focus on what it would taste like.

house in forest
It is important to focus on the details when manifesting.

I then switch my laptop on to do a couple of hours work. I also look at my income stream and see how the numbers are getting bigger and bigger on my computer screen.

At this point, it is important to focus on details such as what currency you want your income to be in and exactly how you feel when you see these numbers growing. Attaching feeling to your manifestations is key.

I then sit with this feeling for a while and start practicing gratitude for this amazingly abundant life I have.

I then go on to think what I will do for the rest of the day; maybe do some hiking or painting or reading. I continue to focus on the feeling this freedom gives me.

It is important to act and think as if you already have what you desire. Thinking about what you “want” and “need” communicates lack to the universe and it will leave you only manifesting more lack.

You will also find that once you are done with visualizing your desires, you will immediately feel like your frequency has been lifted. Try to stick to this feeling for the rest of the day and watch the magick happen!

If you do this often enough, your sub conscious will start presenting you with solutions in order for you to reach your goal. It’s important to follow through on these nudges you get.

3. Colours that attract abundance

You can manifest abundance into your life through colours! Colours vibrate on different frequencies. Try swapping your wallet for a colour that vibrates on the same frequency as money. Red, green and brown are some examples. Once you have your new colour wallet, you will also find that you are reminding yourself that this colour attracts abundance.

Another trick is to keep a couple of notes in your wallet which you never spend. This is so that every time you open your wallet, you subconsciously think “there is still money/ I still have money”.

4. Don’t be afraid to spend money

Remember that when we want to manifest abundance, we need to get rid of our lack mentality. This includes our thought processes when we spend money. Instead of thinking that you have less money every time you give some away, talk to your money. Tell them to come back to you three times three and then be grateful for that amount that is going to come back to you.

This goes without saying that we still need to be responsible with our spending.

4. Think about what you will do with the money you desire

At the end of the day, we aren’t really after the money. We are after what the money will give us. Do you want to buy a house or pay off your debts? Focus not only on the money coming in, but on what you would like to spend it on. In the case of buying a house, focus on all the details of the house.

5. Appreciate your debt and see it as a source of abundance

Be grateful for someone being there for you in order for you to loan the money you needed at the time. Thank the universe for it’s gift you have received and start believing that you always have everything you need.

Get over the Fear of the Blank Canvas

Ok, so we’ve all been there; when you have your canvas in front of you, your paint all set up, but then you draw a blank and have no idea what to paint. This is called studio block, or the fear of the blank canvas.

The main reason why this happens is because we fear something and this causes us to procrastinate.

Get over the Fear of the Blank Canvas

Different types of fear that causes us to procrastinate

Fear of Failure– This is probably the most common one we all face. Changing my viewpoint on failure helped me a lot. I decided to start looking at it as something that is inevitable and to use it as a means to learn something. Learning to fail faster through taking action can actually be very beneficial to any project you take on.

Fear of the unknown – It can be daunting to start a new painting when you dont know what challenged lie ahead. Try replacing this fear with curiosity and a sense of adventure instead. Don’t take life so seriously.

Fear of Criticism or rejection – A lot of us are scared of what others will say or think about our work. Instead of taking criticism personally, try looking at your artwork as something that can be even better through the help of others. In doing so it kind of becomes this fun challenge, which actually connect you to people, since it feels like you guys are working in a team to problem solve.

How to Get over the Fear of the Blank Canvas

Just Start

You’ll often hear me tell my students “paint with your left hand” to which I usually receive an amused chuckle as reply. I find that the quickest way to solve the blank canvas dilemma is to just make a random mark on the canvas. I say left hand, because we have less control over our non dominant hand. This helps to create beautiful brush strokes which we will not be able to achieve with our right hand, since we will tend to overthink the mark when we use our dominant hand.

In my article why children make better abstract artists than adults, I mention that kids enjoy the journey way more than adults, because they aren’t scared of how it turns out. This results in them creating beautiful abstract paintings which adults find difficult to produce.

Take a break

Have you ever studied so much that it really doesn’t matter what you read, you just wont absorb any more information? Well same goes for painting. Give yourself a break when you feel like you cant think anymore. If you have a steep commission deadline, try going for a walk and not think about painting for an hour or so.

Focus on the process and not the end product

Try not to focus so much on how you are hoping for the painting to come out. I find that at some point the painting tells you what it needs anyway, so it doesn’t ever quite come out exactly how you expect. Not for me anyway.

Experiment in a journal

If you find yourself too scared to make a mistake on your canvas, why not loosen up a little by experimenting in a journal? It helps to tell yourself that no one will see it and if you end up hating it, you can always just flip the page or tear it out. Who knows, you might just come up with a new technique that inspires a brand new painting.

Get rid of distractions

Put that load of laundry in before you start painting! (I am so guilty of this). A way we procrastinate is to end up doing a bunch of other things that can actually wait till later. If you do find that your mind runs off to doing chores and other things, try setting up a to do list instead. Complete what you feel is most important and then get back to painting.

Have a designated painting area

Have you ever heard that you shouldn’t really read in bed when you have trouble sleeping? This is because your brain usually gets trained to do a certain task in a certain setting at a certain time. Your creative process might very well work the same way. Create a place in your house that is just meant for painting. You’ll find that your creative juices will soon start flowing once your brain realises ”when we sit here, we are creative”.

A way to get your groove back

women sitting at desk feeling frustrated

Stuck in a rut? You’re going to want to read this if you’re trying to find a way to get your groove back:

It has been about two weeks since I’ve read and applied the steps to the book Think and grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. Here’s what happened to me:

For months I’ve been wanting to get up at 5AM to work on my dreams.

For months, I’ve been wanting to be the kind of person who gets up at 5am and work on my own dreams before I go to work. (Or at least tidy the house and start reading that book which I never have time for). I would try all sorts of tricks; put my alarm far away so I’d have to get out of bed to switch it off, take a cold shower, etc. This did not work for me and I did not at all feel like the successful individual I was striving to be.

On the rare occasion when I was actually able to drag myself out of bed and focus on my projects, I had no energy and I simply could not concentrate.

Upon reading Think and grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, I had no idea that one could also use his method as a way to get your groove back.

This book provides you with the necessary steps you can take in order to manifest your desires. It is money orientated, but you can apply it to pretty much anything else in your life as well.

These are some of the necessary steps described in the book:

I incorporated this into my life and found it to be a good way to not only get what you want, but also as a way to get your groove back.

  1. Fix in your mind the exact amount of money you desire. It is not enough to just say, “I want a lot of money.” Give a definite amount.”
  2. Decide exactly what you plan to give in return for the money you desire. (There is no such thing as “something for nothing.”)
  3. Set a definite date when you intend to possess the money you desire.
  4. Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire, and begin immediately, whether you are ready or not, to put this plan into action.
  5. Write out a clear and concise statement of the amount of money you intend to acquire, name the time limit for its acquisition, state what you intend to give in return for the money, and describe clearly the plan through which you intend to accumulate it.
  6. Read your written statement out loud, twice a day, once just before going to bed at night and once after waking up in the morning. As you read, see and feel and believe yourself already in possession of the money.
I noticed that one can use the steps described in Think and grow Rich by Napoleon Hill as a way to get your groove back.

I eagerly began to formulate my plan. Although my expected date is set about a month from now (exciting stuff!) , I’ve already started seeing some major changes in myself!

As the book predicts, my subconscious mind started to give me solutions to reach my goal. Thoughts and ideas flow so freely now that I often stop and ask: “Wow, where did that come from”?

Since the day after setting my goal, I have been waking up at 5am every morning, feeling refreshed and energized.

Think and Grow Rich is truly a game changer and I am so excited for my manifested due date that I can hardly contain myself! I highly recommend this book if you are looking for ways to get your groove back. (And also to get whatever else you desire).

I would like to suggest that you pick up a copy and start applying his 6 definite practical steps to your life.

PS: also look out for the secret hidden in each chapter. Im about to read it for the second time.

Things you can do to love your job

desk with laptop and news paper, business woman

It happens to the best of us. Our career starts out promising and exciting. Years down the line, you start to resent your job due to feeling unfulfilled and unsatisfied.

Luckily, there are things you can do to love your job

1. Get into a great audio book or create a playlist that boost your mood.

Lets be honest, when you’re not that thrilled about going to work, you’re not exactly going to enjoy your commute to work either.

One things you can do to love your job, which I found made a major difference in my day to day, is listening to an audio book on a topic that I’m interested in on my way to work.

I accidentally stumbled onto the idea of listening to audio books when I wanted to read The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle.

I just couldn’t fit reading into my jam-packed schedule. I was absolutely thrilled when I found out that it was available in audio as well.

Funny enough, I now actually look forward to my ride to work in the morning so that I can listen to my latest book. By the time I get to work, I’m in such a good mood, I don’t even really mind being there.

It beats road rage too, by the way.

2. Stay present

The Power of Now brings us to our second point.  Be present.

This simply means that when you are busy making coffee, for instance, you are only focusing on making the coffee. You do not allow your mind to think about the pile of laundry waiting for you at home or what that one person said two days ago that’s still upsetting you.

You are simply focusing on the sound of the water pouring into the cup. The colour changing as you pour the milk in. The sound of the teaspoon hitting the side of the cup as you stir your coffee. And when you drink your coffee, you only drink your coffee.

The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle taught me that most problems in our lives exist only in the mind.  Our thoughts are almost always past or future oriented.  Go ahead; test it out for yourself.

He presents practical ways to bring you into the now, the present moment, where problems do not exist. (He also gives us a way to deal with the rare occasion of when there actually is a crisis). Applying this concept of living in the now is totally life changing.

3. Smile

business woman smiling
Smiling boosts your mood in a matter of minutes!

You can improve your mood by smiling! Research suggests that by smiling, you activate a specific set of muscles in your face. These set of muscles are connected to the emotion of happiness.

Through smiling, you are signaling the emotional centers of your brain to tell them that you are happy or experiencing joy.

According to a meditation coach based in Florida, just 1 minute of smiling when waking up can actually boost your mood for the entire day.

And in doing so at work, you’ll also find that your colleagues can’t help but reciprocate a smile.

This will immediately create a lighter atmosphere in your work environment. Go ahead, incorporate this into the things you can do to love your job plan.

4. Practice Gratitude

Add practicing gratitude to your list of things you can do to love your job. What is the first thing you think of when you wake up in the morning?  Is it positive or negative?

I found that our thoughts, especially early in the morning, have a huge impact on our mood during the entire day.

Make a habit out of practicing gratitude once you’re awake.  Find small things to be grateful for; like your morning cup of coffee or your new blouse you bought the other day.

I personally like to take a bath at least once a week (don’t worry, I shower on the other days).  I then use my favorite bath products and essential oils (lavender is amazing for relaxing).  I also burn some candles and play some meditation music.

In this time, I start thinking about how amazing my life is, even if I don’t really feel like it is at that given moment. It always leaves me feeling brand new and refreshed.

5. Steer Clear From Drama

So there is a gossip in your office? One of the things you can do to love your job is to steer clear from rumours and drama.

Focusing on your to do list is an excellent way to not get involved in office drama.

6. Make a Friend at Work

A couple of months ago, after blurting out to my manager about a personal crisis I was having at the time, we ended up going for a drink after work and soon became really good friends.

I soon fount that this really was one of the best things you can do to love your job, since I was looking forward to seeing my new friend there.

Now I’m not saying that you should go tell your colleague all your problems, but inviting a someone out for a coffee once in a while might be a good idea.  Who knows, you might have more in common than you thought.

I would love to know if these tips worked for you. Do you have any others to add to the list?
